How long have you been in business?
Scontrino-Powell was founded in 1975 by Dr. Peter Scontrino under the name Scontrino and Associates. He was joined by Dr. Jevon Powell in 2001. In the 39 years since, we've worked with hundreds of organizations both locally and worldwide, from the Fortune 500 to small non-profits and many government agencies.
What is your primary product or service?
Our primary focus is the application of Industrial-Organizational (I-O) Psychology to the workplace (I-O can be thought of as a combination of social psychology, business operations, and human resource management). We provide a broad range of services, focusing mainly on: --Lean & Continuous Process Improvement (Lean culture change, Kaizen events, facilitator training workshops) --Performance Management (performance appraisals, 360 assessments, strategic alignment) --OD and Change Management (culture change, employee surveys, organization analysis, employee involvement systems) --Training and Development (executive coaching, design/deliver training, design mentoring programs, succession planning) --Employee Selection (design and validate selection systems)
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Dr. Peter Scontrino graduated from Seattle University and Michigan State University, where he earned Ph.D. degree in industrial-organizational psychology. Born and raised in the State of Washington, he has worked here his entire life, serving as a faculty member at the University of Washington, Seattle University, and Seattle Pacific University (where he and Jevon co-teach graduate level courses in Workplace Stress, Selection, and Performance Management). Dr. Jevon Powell began graduate studies in organizational psychology at the University of Washington and received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the New School for Social Research in New York City. He is a licensed psychologist in both Washington and California. Both were drawn to the field of psychology because of their desire to serve. They saw (and continue to see) their field as a vehicle for making positive and lasting impacts on the lives of others. Peter is also a licensed helicopter pilot and spends much of his spare time 1,000 feet up in his helicopter. Jevon is an accomplished guitarist, playing concerts around the Seattle area with his band.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
What sets us apart from others is our dual role as scientist practitioners. We are licensed psychologists with Ph.D.s in human behavior. As psychologists, we believe our role is to facilitate the consulting process, applying only rigorous evidence-based practices. As practitioners, we speak the language of business and make every attempt to involve our clients in the design, implementation, and evaluation of our consulting work. We understand that the client has to be the expert that owns the process if our work is to endure.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We are based out of the greater Seattle area with offices in Sammamish and West Seattle. We do not plan to expand.

Peter Scontrino is the owner of the company, partnered by Jevon Powell. They run daily operations with the assistance of one other staff, Robert Bullock (staff consultant and PhD student).
